Telling the Stories That Make a Difference

Depth of Field empowers underrepresented voices in documentary filmmaking through education, mentorship, and global storytelling initiatives.

Depth of Field empowers underrepresented storytellers to own their narratives and build sustainable careers in documentary filmmaking. We equip emerging filmmakers — primarily youth from BIPOC, refugee, and economically disadvantaged communities — with professional training, essential resources, production experience, and industry-standard wages.

Our programs pair hands-on filmmaking education with real production opportunities. Students and community members create films that uncover overlooked truths, challenge dominant narratives, and preserve stories often erased from history. These works go on to global distribution through leading talent agencies, film festivals, and streaming partners.

Our reinvestment model ensures that proceeds from each film fund scholarships, equipment access, and mentorship for future cohorts, building a cycle of opportunity that grows with every story told.

Depth of Field currently teaches year-long filmmaking courses in New York City — beginning with our flagship partnership at Robeson High School in Crown Heights — and will expand to include youth in transitional housing and refugee communities worldwide.

Together, we are building an ecosystem where creativity becomes economic mobility, representation becomes leadership, and storytelling becomes a form of community power.

Message

We believe in the profound power of visual storytelling to cultivate empathy, spark meaningful dialogue, and drive lasting social change.

Photography and cinema are more than artistic mediums — they are vital tools for personal and collective healing. The act of creating art can serve as a therapeutic outlet, helping individuals process and transcend trauma. Through the documentation of personal testimonies, untold stories come to light — fostering greater awareness, understanding, and ultimately accountability.

By giving voice to the lived experiences that are often overlooked or suppressed, visual storytelling not only honors those who share their truths, but also challenges audiences to engage with complex realities — paving the way for a more compassionate and just world.
